Founders Breakfast Stout

Breakfast Stout by Founder's Brewing is a double chocolate coffee oatmeal stout.

I envision the brewers at Founders lounging about and kibitzing in the brewery breakroom whilst nibbling chocolate chip oatmeal cookies and sipping coffee when all of sudden someone exclaimed "This would make an awesome beer!"  Then someone else said, "So it shall be."  And that is how the idea for this beer was conceived.

Or something like that.

Or not.

Anyhoo . . . this is a breakfast beer if ever there was one.  What the hell, go for it.  It's five O'clock somewhere, right? Right!

Breakfast Stout (8.3% ABV) pours a deep mahogany bordering on black with a thick, fluffy glass grabbing head.

The aroma is like fresh brewed espresso  sprinkled with cocoa and topped off with a dollop of malt.   A coffee lover's dream true is pretty much what it smells like.

I immediately tasted coffee and dark roasted malts followed by bittersweet chocolate.  Flavorwise, the oatmeal is there in way that is "smelled" on the back of the palate more than tasted. Bitter hops and coffee linger in the finish.
All of the flavors in Breakfast Stout co-mingle nicely in way that none overpowers the other and the delicious qualities of each can be appreciated.

The taste and feel of the high alcohol content is negligible and, therefore, is not noteworthy.

The mouth feel is thick and creamy - almost chewy - just as I would expect from an oatmeal stout.  The texture of this beer is exceptional and completes the greatness of this beer.

Sip this beer.  Savor it.  As it warms in the glass the aroma and flavors intensify; adding a whole other level of  enjoyment to this brew.

Overall - excellent.
