The Country Mile

When I'm traveling there's nothing more awesome than coming across a hidden gem of a store with a treasure trove of craft beer.

The Country Mile in Greenville, NH is one those stores.  We spied this store on a little road out in the middle of nowhere.  We were our way to a shooting event put together by friend and fellow blogger MArooned for bloggers of the Northeast USA and beyond.

It's funny we've never stopped at this store before.  We've been attending this shoot for a few years and we get lunch from here every year.

We'd heard of a place in the area that had a great selection of craft beer. We just never put two and two together.  They make a rockin' good sandwich and have excellent gas prices, by the way. The Country Mile has got it all going on!

We hit the Country Mile after a long but fun day of shooting and blogger fellowship.

I walked into the beer section and was amazed by the veritable mountains of beer and I was almost gravely disappointed.

As far as the eye could see there was a pile of macro brew here and a mound of macro brew there and a cooler filled with macro brew.

Then I turned around. And . . . Oh!  Hello there!!

It wasn't the biggest selection of craft beer I've ever seen but it was a mighty impressive one.  The Country Mile has a some great brewers represented in their craft beer corner.

I made some careful choices - space being a factor - and walked out with a box full of beer I can't wait to try!

From Josh, beer manager of the Country Mile - Our craft section has grown every year, however, it has grown possibly slower than a lot of other stores might have because we pull from a very blue collar town and surrounding towns.  For instance, our #1 selling  beer in the store is between Bud Light, Coors Light and Keystone Light.  Not a lot of big beer stores has their #1 selling beer be Keystone Light.  As we build our customer base whom would purchase from the craft section, we expand the craft section.  However, we sold 250,000 cases of beer last year. We are the largest independent in the state.  Only 3 Market Baskets sell more beer than us in the state, so our bread and butter is still the Macro beers that people purchase by the carriage load.  There is a lot of growth in the craft segment and we are doing our best to catch that trend and it is nice to be recognized for it!

If you're in the area, stop in!  Grab lunch, fill up your car and get some beer!

I stopped there on my way home on Sunday. I only picked up two bottles of beer, shame on me. I got a couple of bottles of Cisco Brewers, Island Reserve, Russian Imperial Stout (see: http://ciscobrewers.com/beer/russian-imperial-stout). I had one yesterday and gave the other to my son. I have not had a stout in probably at least two years and I have to say I'll have to start drinking more of them - this was pretty good stuff.

All the best,
Glenn B
