Alchemy Ale

I have to admit, being the social media whore that I am, that sometimes the motivation for trying a beer is to acquire a meaningless badge on Untappd. Sometimes, I'll even drink a beer from a brewery that I've had consistently bad experience with just to get one of those badges. I don't need no stinkin' badges? Oh, hell yes I do!

I'm not talking about Widmer Beer; I like their beer.

Alchemy Ale by Widmer Brothers is one of those beers. Unlock Alchemy Gold was one of those deals that if you drank one you got a plain ol' Alchemy Ale badge but if you drank four of those puppies you got a spiffy gold badge. I had to get me both of those bad boys, so I suffered through drinking all that beer to get them. It's a rough job, but someone's got to do it.

Alchemy Ale (5.80% ABV) is an  American Pale Ale. It pours a clear amber with a fluffy white head that leaves behind some loose lacing.

The aroma is pleasantly hoppy with citrus and pine and fruity aromas.

The taste delivered what the smell promised. Tangy grapefruit and pine overlay a sweeter backbone of grainy hops and some juicy fruits. The flavors balance each other out quite nicely. The finish is crisp and bitter.

The mouth feel is medium with lots of carbonation.

Alchemy Ale is a smooth drinking brews with just enough hoppy bitterness to appease this hophead.

Overall: good
